和月伸宏さんの人気マンガを俳優の佐藤健さん主演で実写化した映画「るろうに剣心」（大友啓史監督）シリーズの最終章「るろうに剣心 最終章 The Beginning」（6月4日公開）に、俳優の高橋一生さん、村上虹郎さん、安藤政信さんが出演することが3月2日、明らかになった。高橋さんは桂小五郎、村上さんは沖田総司、安藤さんは高杉晋作を演じる。
今回発表となった3人は、「るろうに剣心」シリーズ最後となる「The Beginning」で、動乱の幕末に命を懸けて戦う剣心（佐藤さん）と関わり合う重要な人物。
高橋さん演じる長州藩志士の桂は、“人斬り抜刀斎”が誕生するきっかけとなった人物で、安藤さん扮（ふん）する高杉も桂と同じ長州藩志士。今回解禁となった桂と高杉のビジュアルには、2人によって剣心が見いだされ、剣心の運命が大きく変わる場面が収められている。
村上さん演じる沖田は、若くして天才剣士とたたえられるほどの武闘派で新選組の一番隊組長。ビジュアルには、沖田が剣心を鋭い眼光でにらみつけながら剣を交わす場面が写し出されている。
大友監督は、高橋さんの配役について「幕末という刹那（せつな）の時代は、殺気を帯びた艶っぽさが似合う時代。一生君は、それ以外ないという唯一無二の表現をしっかり探り当ててくれる。しかもその深度が半端ない。彼が演じる桂の一つ一つの立ち居振る舞いからは、剣心に対するこまやかな思いが感じられ、と同時に間違いなく作品の強いアクセントになると思いました」とコメント。
村上さんについては、「山椒は小粒でもピリリと辛い、虹郎くんの鋭いイメージと沖田のイメージが自然と重なりました。剣心との夢の対決を含め、この魅惑的な人物を独特のムードをまとい、見事に演じてくれたと思います」と語り、安藤さんを「一瞬にして人の心をとりこにする唯一無二、独特のカリスマ性は、安藤政信ならではと痛感しましたね。奇兵隊のエキストラたちが、その姿を前に一気に高揚し、魅力に取り込まれていく。高杉が持つ豪胆さと繊細さ、ひとくくりにはできないその存在感を、十二分に体現してくれたと思います」と評している。
