(c)AFP

On the other hand, I might have kept your entire team in implementation mode, getting all the missions to the extent of the proto-missions, that means none of them can be precisely right however we’d be able to see the shape of the whole game and all the missions would be prepared for tuning at about the identical time.

LONDON, March 28 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International is preparing
to launch its flagship heated tobacco device IQOS in Austin, Texas, indicating it will be the first testing ground for its U.S.
entry, job adverts on LinkedIn show.

IQOS, the top selling heated tobacco device globally, sits at the core of the world’s biggest tobacco company’s efforts to
transform its image from a purveyor of cigarettes
to a driving force behind the switch to healthier options.

Investors are waiting to see if Philip Morris (PMI) can create a market for heated tobacco in the
United States, where vaping currently dominates.

The country offers PMI a substantial base of new users and, potentially,
a hefty new income stream that could prove transformative as it tries to generate an increasing proportion of revenue from products other than cigarettes.

PMI spent the vast majority of $10.7 billion of expenditure on smoking
alternatives between 2008 and 2022 on IQOS’ development.

The Marlboro maker had said it planned to launch the device
in four cities in two U.S. states starting with one city in the second quarter,
ahead of a broader roll-out likely in 2025. However it had not released further details, including around which cities or states it is
    targeting.

Job adverts posted on LinkedIn reveal that the company is laying the groundwork for an IQOS launch in Austin, Texas.
The adverts, posted this month, include positions as field sales
representatives, territory managers and retail sales advisors.

Whether or not IQOS takes off in the United States will
be significant given the market’s size. Euromonitor estimates total U.S.
nicotine sales, excluding nicotine replacement therapies, were worth some $143.6 billion in 2022.

While cigarettes accounted for the vast majority of that, Euromonitor forecasts their
value will shrink by 30% by 2027. The value of vapes, heated tobacco products and other alternatives will rise
by 36% over the same period, it says.

    TESTING GROUND

Products like IQOS work by heating up sticks of ground up tobacco without burning them in an attempt to avoid the harmful chemicals released via combustion.

Heated tobacco products have so far been largely absent from
the U.S. market aside from limited sales of IQOS managed by PMI’s former parent,
Altria, and another product offered on a limited scale by British American Tobacco.

PMI paid Altria $2.7 billion for the rights to market IQOS in the United States in 2022.
BAT has subsequently cast doubt on the category’s potential
in the country, where vaping and other alternatives are already well established.

Texas offers an interesting trial market given its broad demographics, ranging from
super rural to highly urban, said Brett Cooper, managing partner
and analyst at Consumer Edge, an equity research firm.
He added that diverse cities like Austin, Houston and Dallas provide access to
a wide range of consumer groups.

Tobacco taxes in the state are also relatively low,
according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data.
The excise tax rate on a pack of cigarettes in Texas
stood at $1.41 in September 2023, the data shows – far higher than the 17 cents in Missouri but also well below the more than $5 per pack in New York.

Texas introduced new laws around e-cigarettes in January,
restricting devices that resemble food products like candy or fruit juice,
or that include a symbol or celebrity image targeted at minors or depict cartoon-like fictional characters.

PMI bets IQOS can win a 10% share of U.S. tobacco and
heated tobacco unit volume by around 2030.

Ahead of IQOS’ launch, the company has also been building out its lobbying
firepower across the United States. The company wants
two thirds of its revenue to come from “smoke-free” products by 2030.

  3. Howdy! This is kind of off topic but I need some advice from an established blog.

I’m thinking about creating my own but I’m not sure where to begin.

  4. Joe Aston got the kind of book launch every first time author dreams of – massive
amounts of free publicity online, in newspapers and on TV and radio.

And it was all thanks to Anthony Albanese’s ill-informed attack on Aston over what was written in his book, The Chairman’s Lounge – The
Inside Story of how Qantas sold us out.

Despite the resultant terrible publicity – which has led to him being called ‘upgrade Albo’ – and calls for an inquiry,
Aston told Daily Mail Australia his book is ‘not a hit
    job on Anthony Albanese’.

Aston insisted he’s ‘not trying to get a scalp’, but
reiterated that the Prime Minister ‘had a direct line to Alan Joyce’.

The book claims Mr Albanese got 22 upgrades from economy on Qantas flights by personally requesting
them from the airline’s then CEO Mr Joyce – which the Prime Minister has categorically denied.

According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’, 11 of the 22 flights Mr
Albanese got upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu.

But instead of addressing the claim, Mr Albanese chose to shoot the messenger and, in turn, shot
    himself in the foot.

He said Aston was using the accusations to sell books and said he was hiding his employment
    history.

‘I don’t see declarations that he’s a former Liberal Party staffer… I don’t see declarations he’s a former Qantas employee,’ the Prime Minister said.

But before the book even gets to the contents page there is
a photo of Aston that refers to him as the then-Qantas corporate communications senior adviser.

Joe Aston (pictured) got the kind of book launch
every first time author dreams of – massive amounts of
free publicity online, in newspapers and on TV
    and radio

Anthony Albanese (right) is pictured with his fiance Jodie Haydon (left) and then Qantas CEO Alan Joyce on March 31, 2023 in Sydney, Australia

And the first chapter of the book reveals that he worked for
then-Liberal MP Bruce Baird, who held the southern Sydney seat of Cook
    before Scott Morrison.

‘My professional history is not a secret or not disclosed, it’s in the first line of the first page of
the book,’ Aston said on Tuesday night, just before his book launch.

Though he was grateful for the free publicity Mr Albanese’s
response gave the book, Aston was still ‘staggered’ at the untrue claims
about him the Prime Minister made.

‘He’s under enormous pressure and I know, I’ve seen this many times with public figures and leaders who struggle to see their own part in it, the terrible circumstances that they create,’ he said.

Extravagant Qantas perk Anthony Albanese FAILED to declare is
revealed… after two days of denials

Asked if Mr Albanese had been poorly advised in his attack, Aston, who is a former Australian Financial Review columnist,
wonders if the Prime Minister ‘even listens to
    advice at this point’.

‘All he’s doing is talking around the issue and he’s blaming me and he’s blaming other MP’s for also taking upgrades (on Qantas flights).

‘He’s avoiding the only thing that he can’t talk about, which is, did you ask Qantas for confirmed upgrades on your private holidays when you were the Transport Minister?
The answer is “yes” and he’s desperately trying to avoid saying it.’

Smelling blood, Opposition leader Peter Dutton said the Prime Minister should refer himself to the anti-corruption commission over the flight
    upgrades.

Coming on top of Mr Albanese’s tone deaf purchase of a $4.3million clifftop mansion while so many people are struggling to pay their mortgage
or rent, the latest blow to his credibility has led to calls
    for him to resign.

Aston refuses to be drawn on this, though.

‘I never expected this (part of the book) to even this part to get this far.
I really am shocked at how it’s blown up.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is pictured with the then Qantas CEO Alan Joyce

Anthony Albanese is pictured on August 14, 2023 as Qantas unveiled its Yes23 livery
in support of a Yes vote in the Indigenous
    Voice to Parliament referendum

Among the movers and shakers at Joe Aston’s book launch
in the ritzy Hemmesphere club in Sydney was Tabcorp director David
    Gallop (pictured)

Paul Barry (pictured in blue shirt), the host of the ABC’s Media Watch
show, was also at the launch

‘So to the extent that it has, I would say … anyone who reads the book will learn that this book is not a hit job
on Anthony Albanese. This book is about Qantas.

‘Anthony Albanese is an example of how Qantas influences politicians on both sides of the aisle, Labor, Liberal, National, you name it.
They’ve been doing it for more than a generation.

‘They’re the best influence peddler in Australia.
I’m not here trying to get a scalp. That’s not what this book is about and it never was.’

But the conversation Daily Mail Australia had with Aston mirrors
the conversations being had across Australia and eventually winds up back on Mr Albanese.

‘Even I’ve underestimated how fed up the public is with the freebie mindset of politicians,’ he said.

Guests at Joe Aston’s book launch on Tuesday night are pictured pointing for emphasis or to someone they recognise

There was no shortage of free alcohol (pictured) available at the launch of Joe Aston’s
    book

Joe Aston is pictured in the exclusive Hemmesphere club in Sydney, where his book
    The Chairman’s Lounge was launched

‘And unfortunately for Albanese, he’s been in politics a long time and that kind of
behaviour is quite normalised to him, is what I’ve seen.

‘I mean, he loves the free concert tickets and sitting
at the front row of the Australian Open Tennis.

‘I went to the Australian Open Tennis as a journalist almost
every year for 12 years and he was the only Prime Minister
    (I saw there).

‘Those tickets are worth thousands of dollars to sit in the front row of the
International Grand Slam. He’s the first Prime Minister who I’ve ever seen do that.

‘That to me is a sign that he doesn’t quite get what
it looks like to others when he’s on the gravy train. And I think (the claims in the book are) just another example of that.’

In Australian politics it’s regular practise for an MP’s travel to be booked
in economy, then someone in their office phones the airline and asks if their flight
    can be upgraded.

The difference with the Prime Minister is that ‘he
had a very direct line to Alan Joyce,’ Aston said.

‘The other thing is there’s a difference between an upgrade where it’s in the booking and if the
seat’s empty when the flight closes, you’ll get upgraded.

‘This is different. This is a confirmed
upgrade where the ticket is converted and you are guaranteed.
You’re not going to the airport crossing your fingers
going “Geez, I hope there is a spare seat”.

‘You’re guaranteed. You turn up knowing you’re getting a seat
and the only person at Qantas who can issue those
types of upgrades is the CEO. No other executive can do that.

‘So it is beyond question that Alan joints authorised these upgrades
    (for Anthony Albanese).’

Aston enjoyed many upgrades to the pointy end of planes during
his time as a travel journalist, and understands the attraction for
    politicians to get up there.

‘These things are tempting and it’s human nature too.
Once you’ve experienced the front of the plane, it’s very hard to go back.

‘For politicians, they run around with all these
staff and they’ve got chauffeured cars and they fly in business,
but they don’t get paid like CEOs …

‘They’re not in a situation where they can afford to go flying around in the front of the plane on personal travel.

‘A normal person would say “Therefore I won’t (fly business class). But (for politicians) it’s a culture of entitlement.’

Aston is careful to point out that most people would say politicians are ‘very well paid compared to the average worker’.

But that doesn’t stop some MPs from desperately seeking a free ride, whether it’s a flight upgrade, concert tickets or the executive box at sporting events.

Late on Wednesday night, a spokeswoman Mr Albanese said ‘The Prime Minister did not ever call Alan Joyce seeking an upgrade’.

‘All travel has been appropriately declared and is a matter of public record.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Qantas for comment.

The Chairman’s Lounge – The Inside Story of how Qantas sold us out, by Joe Aston, is available now in bookshops and from online retailers

WHAT IS THE QANTAS CHAIRMAN’S LOUNGE?

The Qantas Chairman’s Lounge is an invitation-only club approved by the company chairman, with the guest list a closely-guarded secret.

It has been dubbed ‘the most exclusive club in the country’ and comes with a distinct black card.

Members include senior-ranking MPs such as ministers, state premiers and the Prime Minister, leaders of major unions and sporting groups, Qantas ambassadors, selected A-list celebrities, major corporate figures and high-profile media personalities.

The clubs can be found in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide airports but are not signposted – you have to know where to look.

Inside you will find expensive wood and brass furnishings, wool carpet and marble flooring, all bathed in natural light.

Members enjoy fine à la carte dining with a complimentary premium array of beers, spirits and Australian wines. Wine bottles are often given as departing gifts.

Facilities may also include spas, showers and an assortment of books and magazines.

Members may bring in two guests at a time.

Lounge attendants personally alert you when your flight is ready to board, and your personal preferences are logged for each flight.

Membership also entitles you to first-class facilities at Qantas partner airlines.

  5. An invitation to lunch at Caviar Kaspia was, once upon a time, an offer you simply didn’t refuse.
Providing, of course, that the bill was on someone else.
Because caviar, smeared on blinis or piled high on baked
potatoes, sure didn’t come cheap. There may have been other things on the menu, but
no one paid them much heed. This was all about lashings
    of the black stuff.

Caviar Kaspia’s signature baked potato and caviar: ‘there are few better dishes
on earth…only the price, at just under £150, is ridiculous’

Caviar Kaspia popped her final tin about two decades back. And that
site, hidden down a smart Mayfair mews, was taken over by Gavin Rankin (who used to be the boss), and transformed into the brilliant Bellamy’s.
It prospers to this day. Kaspia, on the other hand, went quiet.

Until last year, when she reopened as a members’ club in another Mayfair
backstreet. But a £2,000 a year membership fee proved hard to swallow, meaning the doors were opened to the
    great unwashed.

Which is how we find ourselves sitting in a rather
handsome – albeit near empty – dining room, lusciously lavish,
under the stern gaze of a stern painting of a very stern man. The soft,
crepuscular gloom is broken up by the glare of table lamps,
indecorously bright, while a loud soundtrack of indolent,
indeterminate beats throbs in the background.
The whole place is scented with gilded ennui.

Our fellow diners are two young South Korean women of
pale, luminescent beauty, clad in diaphanous couture.
They don’t speak, rather communicate entirely via camera phone.
Pose, click, check, filter, post. Immaculate waiters hover in the shadows.

We sip ice-cold vodka, and eat a £77 caviar and smoked-salmon Kaspia
croque monsieur that tastes far better than it ought to.
Next door, a large table fills with a glut of the noisily, glossily confident.

We’re looked after by a wonderful French lady of such effervescent charm and charisma
that had she burst into an impromptu performance of ‘Willkommen’, we would have barely blinked.
Baked potatoes, skin as crisp as parchment, insides whipped savagely hard with butter and sour cream, are
a study in tuber art. A cool jet-black splodge of oscietra caviar,
gently saline, raises them to the sublime. Only the price, at
just under £150 each, is ridiculous. But there are few better dishes on earth.

I’d eat this every day if I could. But I can’t. Obviously.
That’s the problem with caviar. One taste is never enough.

    spot on the waiting list.

Pricing details of billionaire John Caudwell’s spectacular 1 Mayfair development have now been revealed and only those with the deepest pockets
can hope to afford one of the lavish pads.

The cheapest apartment on offer is expected to be an eye-watering £35million – around 70 times
the average cost of a house in the capital.

Due to complete in Spring 2026 the scheme will easily surpass London’s
previous record breaker, the £1.3billion One Hyde Park development in Knightsbridge.

Caudwell told The Standard that there are already more than 600
prospective buyers on a waiting list of billionaires and centi-millionaires who have expressed an interest in making a purchase at the scheme.

There will be just 24 ‘principal residences’ in the property including lateral apartments,
penthouses and townhouses with up to five bedrooms, and five more smaller
    ‘pieds-à-terre’ apartments.

The size of the homes has not yet been disclosed but the developers
say even the most modest property will start with a guide price exceeded by only a handful of mansions in London’s richest neighbourhoods.

The average price of all 29 units – which cover 300,000 sq
ft – will be close to £70million.

The entry level price of £35million is 70 times
the average London property value of around £500,000, and 130 times the national average price
of £268,000 revealed in today’s Nationwide house price survey for November.

The development’s basement is being dug down to 90ft below ground level to make room for a health
spa with a 20 metre swimming pool as well as
    a car park.

The designs were led by New York based architect Robert Stern and practice
RAMSA, with contractors, Mace, the construction managers and PJ Carey responsible for the creation of the basement substructure and superstructure.

Due to complete in Spring 2026 after a six years build the
scheme will easily surpass London’s previous record breaker, the £1.3billion One Hyde Park development in Knightsbridge.

Caudwell – who founded the mobile phones retailers Phones 4u – attended the topping out of 1 Mayfair alongside senior members of the construction team.

The ceremony was marked by the final steel rafter, one
of 79 at roof level, being put into place on the top of the nine-storey main apartment building.

No expense has been spared on the building’s interior and it will feature a ceiling with hand-painted frescos based on Michelangelo’s Map of
the Heavens in the Vatican, a reception room with a
double height ceiling and 18ft high French windows overlooking the
    garden.

There will also be a Palace of Versailles Hall of Mirrors-style crystal callery, created from over 1,264
hand-set pieces of cut glass, a library and a garden gallery,
with seating areas opening directly onto the central courtyard garden.

  9. Hamas’ leader Yahya Sinwar could have given an order to execute all the hostages who
remain in Gaza if he died, a top Israeli negotiator has claimed.

Sinwar died on Wednesday after the IDF encountered him by chance,
sending a drone to kill the terror leader.

Gershon Baskin, the Israeli negotiator who oversaw Sinwar’s 2011
release from an Israeli prison, along with 1,026 Palestinian prisoners, in exchange for the return of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shilat,
said that his death was a ‘moment of either opportunity
    or a moment of doom.’

‘A moment of doom because there are rumours that Sinwar instructed people holding hostages that,
should he be killed, they should kill their hostages,
    ‘ he told the Telegraph.

At the time of Sinwar’s death, just over 100 hostages
remained in Gaza, with 60 thought to still be alive.

Those who remain alive are at risk of never being returned to their families, according Haaretz, which reported on Sunday that top US officials, including Secretary of
State Anthony Blinken, have assessed there is a slim chance of
a deal being brokered, given the tensions between Israel and Hamas.

attack by Hamas, in Tel Aviv, Israel

A senior Israeli official told the newspaper on Sunday, several
days after Sinwar’s passing: ‘There are currently no serious cease-fire talks, and Blinken is fully aware of this.’

They added: ‘It’s unclear how Sinwar’s death will impact any potential negotiations,
if they even exist at this stage.’

While Baskin told the Telegraph that it wasn’t possible
to confirm whether Sinwar had a kill order on the hostages, he said the rumours
ought to be taken seriously, given how little Hamas appears to care for them.

He cited the horrific killing of six hostages in tunnels under Rafah in late August.

Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the
six were ‘cruelly murdered by Hamas just a short time before we got to them.’

The six dead hostages were identified as Eden Yerushalmi, 24, Carmel Gat,
39, Almog Sarusi, 26, Alex Lubnov, 26, Ori Danino, 25, and Hersh Goldberg-Polin,
    23.

Five of those who were recovered had been attending the
Nova music festival when Hamas terrorists began slaughtering festivalgoers, while taking others hostage.
Gat was at her family kibbutz when she was captured.

The time on the clock by the end of the footage is 1.32am, just five hours before the first terrorists were spotted breaching into Israeli
    territory

‘We saw the six hostages killed when Israel was entering the tunnel.
That could be the case now. We just don’t know,’ Baskin said.

US probing ‘leaked Israeli documents’ which ‘indicate Britain’s involvement in a deadly plot’

He said the return of the hostages depended entirely on whether Israel is able to make a deal with Hamas.

‘It’s a moment of opportunity where Israel should be issuing a
very clear call that anyone who’s holding a hostage that releases
them will be given free passage for themselves and their family out of
Gaza to another country, as well as a lot of money.

‘In order to encourage them to do that, Israel
should also be reaching out to Egypt and Qatar and tell them to renew the negotiations quickly, not on the deal
that’s been negotiated without success for almost four months, but on a deal that would bring the hostages home quicker and would obviously require Israel to end
    the war.’

He said a deal would likely mean the release of Palestinian prisoners, a controversial
point for many Israelis who believe that their release would simply lead to another October
    7-style attack in the future.

A Yemeni man looks at an artwork depicting the Hamas’ Political Bureau Head Yahya Sinwar

Sinwar’s lair, discovered by Israeli soldiers in the Tel al-Sultan area, was well-resourced,
with food, water and other supplies to help him survive for months underground

These are the disquieting images that show Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was
callously hiding out in relative comfort from his underground lair as
he ordered his terror group to carry out the bloodiest massacre Israel has ever endured

But Baskin said it was a mistake to think like this:
‘October 7 wasn’t because of Sinwar. [It] was because we’re occupying another
people for 56 years without enabling them to ever believe
that they’re going to be free, or locking two million people in Gaza
under poverty and telling them that they’ll never be able to leave Gaza.’

‘For Palestinians, the lessons learned must, first and
foremost, be that there should no longer be an armed struggle
as part of their liberation strategy.

‘Right or wrong, the armed struggle primarily brings death and destruction.’

  10. Amid tepid returns at the box office for Joker: Folie à Deux,
a number of fans of the sequel took to social media over the weekend in defense of the
sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.

The film, which sees Joaquin Phoenix return to the lead
role of The Joker/Arthur Fleck, debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office, good enough for the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections, and half that of its predecessor.

Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for
the movie and its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie
cutter nature of sequels to introduce a musical element not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the franchise.

‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was ‘100%
as divisive as people are making it out to be.
I love that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the storytelling
they presented. It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other
    crowd pleasing aspects.’

Another user said, ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved how it was structured as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical elements were a lot of fun.’

Amid tepid returns at the box office for Joker: Folie à Deux, a number of fans of the sequel took to social media over the
weekend in defense of the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture, starring Joaquin Phoenix

One user marveled that Joker 2 is ‘getting universal hate despite being more interesting and
creative than anything marvel has done in years is expected.’

A user said that ‘Joker 2 is genuinely such a clever movie which carries

Some users said that the bad word-of-mouth the film was suffering from was
    impacting the opinions of moviegoers.

‘The Joker 2 hate is so forced like did we watched the same movie????????’ one user said, while another
said the hate for the film is ‘so unjustified.’

One fan predicted that the motion picture with stand the test of time with audiences.

‘I may be one of ten people who genuinely liked the Joker 2.
Remember me when society circles back to it in 10 years
and says its a masterpiece,’ said the user. ‘The world just wasn’t ready
    for it yet.’

Said one user: ‘I actually thoroughly enjoyed it. If you don’t like musicals or ‘art house’
style films you probably won’t like it because it’s not made
for you. The dynamic between Harley and Joker was
brilliant and showcased the ‘obsession’ that is key to that duo.’

The movie’s box office collapse was swift and has many in the industry wondering: How did the highly anticipated
sequel to an Oscar-winning, billion-dollar film with the same creative team go
wrong? Just three weeks ago, tracking services pegged the movie for a $70
million debut, which would still have been down a fair amount from
    Joker’s record-breaking $96.2 million launch in October 2019.

A number of fans took to social media to defend the
    controversial sequel

Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and
its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie cutter nature of sequels to
introduce a musical element not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the franchise

Reviews were mixed out of the Venice Film Festival, where it premiered in competition like the first movie
and even got a 12-minute standing ovation.

But the homecoming glow was short-lived, and the fragile foundation would crumble in the coming weeks with
its Rotten Tomatoes score dropping from 63 percent at Venice to 33 percent by its first weekend in theaters. Perhaps even more surprising were
the audience reviews: Ticket buyers polled on opening night gave the film
a deadly D CinemaScore. Exit polls from PostTrak
weren’t any better. It got a meager half star out of five
    possible.

‘That´s a double whammy that´s very difficult to recover from,’ said Paul Dergarabedian, the
senior media analyst for Comscore. ‘The biggest issue
of all is the reported budget. A $40 or $50 million opening
for a less expensive movie would be a solid debut.’

Joker: Folie à Deux cost at least twice as much as the first
film to produce, though reported figures vary at exactly
how pricey it was to make. Phillips told Variety that it was less than the reported $200 million; Others have it
pegged at $190 million. Warner Bros. released the film in 4,102 locations in North America.
About 12.5 percent of its domestic total came from 415 IMAX screens.

Internationally, it’s earned $81.1 million from 25,788 screens,
bringing its total global earnings estimate to $121.1
million. In the next two weeks, Joker 2 will also open in Japan and China.

Second place went to Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot, which added
$18.7 million in its second weekend, bringing its domestic total to nearly $64 million.
Globally, it’s made over $100 million. Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice  took third place in weekend five, Paramount’s Transformers One landed in fourth and Universal and
Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil rounded out the top five.

The other big new release of the weekend, Lionsgate’s White Bird, flopped with just $1.5 million from just over 1,
000 locations, despite an A+ CinemaScore.

Overall, the weekend is up from the same frame last year, but Joker’s start is an unwelcome
twist for theater owners hoping to narrow the box
    office deficit.

The sequel has already been the subject of
many think pieces, some who posit that it was
deliberately alienating fans of the first movie

Phillips and star Joaquin Phoenix have said they aspired to make something
as ‘audacious’ as the first film. The sequel added Lady Gaga into the fold ,
as a Joker superfan, and delved further into the mind of Arthur Fleck, imprisoned at Arkham and awaiting trial for the murders he committed in the first.
It´s also a musical, with elaborately imagined song
and dance numbers to old standards. Gaga even released a
companion album called ”Harlequin,’ alongside the film.

The sequel has already been the subject of many think pieces, some
who posit that it was deliberately alienating fans of the first movie.
In cruder terms, it´s been called a ‘middle finger.’ But
fans often ignore the advice of critics, especially when it
comes to opening their wallets to see revered
comic book characters on the big screen.

‘They took a swing for the fences,’ Dergarabedian said.
‘But except for a couple of outliers, audiences in 2024 seem to want to know what they´re
getting when they´re going to the theater. They want the tried and true, the familiar.’

Deadline editor Anthony D´Alessandro thinks the problem started with the idea
to make the Joker sequel a musical. ‘No fan of the original movie
wanted to see a musical sequel,’ he wrote on Saturday.

The first film was also divisive and the subject of much discourse, then about whether it might send the wrong message to the wrong type
of person. And yet people still flocked to see what the fuss was about.

Joker went on to pick up 11 Oscar nominations, including best picture and best
director, and three wins. It also made over $1 billion and was the highest-grossing R-rated film
of all time, until this summer when Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine took the crown.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S.
and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures
    will be released Monday.

  11. The existence of an exclusive hideaway for the country’s movers
and shakers where secret deals were done in private luxury first exploded into the public eye back in 2007.

Back then, the fact that Qantas spent hundreds of thousands of dollars wining and
dining the nation’s political elite in ultra-exclusive VIP lounges was relatively unknown.

It was a time before Alan Joyce’s tenure as the CEO of Qantas had even started, when he was boss of the comparatively lowly budget airline, Jetstar.

And unlike Anthony Albanese’s current slide in the polls leading up to an election in next year,
the prospects back in 2007 were rosy for Labor.

The election that was looming was the ‘Kevin 07’ landslide that would see Kevin Rudd become prime minister and John Howard lose his own seat.

The issue which blew open the ‘guilty secret’ of the Chairman’s Lounge then wasn’t about
a prime minister’s privileges, although John Howard and Kevin Rudd were certainly both members during their terms as PM.

But when broadcaster Steve Price – himself a long time Chairman’s Lounge member – revealed a politically charged remark made within the club’s hallowed walls, the cat
    was out of the bag.

The political revelation – a comment by ex-rock star turned senator
Peter Garrett that Labor would change the policies it
campaigned on if it won government – did not deter his party from romping in on election day.

In contrast, the scandal currently engulfing Anthony Albanese
about his Chairman’s Lounge membership and that
of his ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt, and their son Nathan could bring down the
    prime minister.

The exclusive Qantas Chairman’s Lounge (above) has been a well-kept secret for years, but it exploded into the public conscience in 2007
as the result of a political furore

Broadcaster Steve Price revealed he had been a Chairman’s
Lounge member since 2002 during a row before the 2007 election won by Kevin Rudd
which let the cat out of the bag about the VIP club

The existence of the lounge was so little known back in 2007 that in defending his disclosure of Garrett’s
remark, Steve Price had to explain what the private enclave actually
    was.

In a first person piece he wrote: ‘The Chairman’s Lounge is a separate frequent flyers lounge
away from the crowded normal Qantas Club.

‘As its name implies, the people given access to it are approved
by the Qantas chairman, Margaret Jackson.

    ‘I have been a Chairman’s Lounge member since 2002.’

In his opinion piece, Price also revealed TV entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins
was also a member of lounge.

Wilkins had also been inside at the time and was his only
witness to the remark Price said Garrett had made.

Other prominent media figures, such as 60 Minutes reporters, actors and performers, and well-known writers and sports people are said to be among the lounge’s
    exclusive membership of around 6000.

Price went on to defend himself for reporting what some claimed
was a confidential conversation in a private place, but which exposed him to criticism over his own membership for allegedly promoting
    Qantas on his radio show.

Back in 2007, Alan Joyce (left) was boss of the comparatively lowly budget
airline Jetstar, and then Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon (right)
had the power over who made the cut to the Chairman’s Lounge

One observer has described the relationship bet6ween leading politicians such as PM Anthony Albanese and the former Qantas CEO
Alan Joyce (above) as ‘alarmingly cosy’

‘Why on earth is Qantas giving a controversial shock
jock membership of its Chairman’s Lounge, which is supposedly to enable our elite politicians and business leaders some privacy from the hoi polloi?’ demanded Crikey reporter Stephen Mayne at the
    time.

‘The Chairman’s Lounge is meant to be all about discretion and confidentiality,’ he said, accusing Price of breaking ‘a confidence’.

The following year, before he was succeeded as Qantas CEO by Alan Joyce, Geoff Dixon was the
sole gatekeeper of entry into the club’s hushed confines.

Qantas Chairman’s Lounge membership was ‘so exclusive that you have to be personally invited by the airline’s chieftain’, Nine newspapers reported in 2008.

‘A marvellous benefit of lounge membership is that
the mega rich and powerful avoid having to mingle with the riffraff who will
    be travelling cattle class.

‘Having said that, members of the ultra-exclusive club have included Pauline Hanson.

‘Another lounge member is Brad Cooper, who is currently enjoying a prolonged exposure
    to cattle-class in Kirkconnell Correctional
Centre.’ (Cooper was the former HIH insurance executive jailed for eight years on fraud and bribery offences).

Membership of the elite lounge is confined to about 6000 Australians
including politicians from both sides, senior public servants, TV stars and actors

The ‘scandal’ currently engulfing Anthony Albanese about
his Chairman’s Lounge membership and that of his ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt, and their son Nathan could
bring down the prime minister (above the PM with partner Jodie
Haydon and ex-Qantas CEO Alan Joyce)

The report noted that politicians declaring membership of the lounge ‘which most of their spouses got too’ in their pecuniary interests that year included Liberal MPs of
the day, Philip Ruddock, Bob Baldwin and Andrew Southcott.

Labor MPs with lounge privileges included Tanya Plibersek,
Bob McMullan, and Sharon Grierson, and Martin Ferguson declared a bottle
of Grange hermitage as a gift from Qantas, as did Liberal, Christopher
    Pyne.

Asked if all MPs got the captain’s pick from Geoff Dixon, the airline’s spokesperson  told Nine: ‘We like to
retain a bit of mystery. Membership is by invitation only and it is reviewed periodically.’

Fast forward to today, and nearly every single federal politician in the country has accepted free membership
of the controversial, invitation-only lounge with one
even describing it as an ‘entitlement’.

Qantas and the Albanese government recently denied the ‘very, very high-end perk’ gives the airline a disproportionate level of influence
    over the country’s politicians.

They were commenting ahead of the launch of the new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former
Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston, which has stirred up the controversy.

A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers – in both Federal Parliament’s House of Representatives
and the Senate – revealed almost 93 per cent of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership to
    the lavish, all-inclusive lounge.

Mr Albanese has defended himself by saying he declared all his
    benefits in pecuniary interest statements.

At a press conference this week, he repeated that all of
his upgrades ‘have been declared as appropriate.
    What’s appropriate is transparency.’

Apart from the PM, members include every one of his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer Ministry
    and all 12 assistant ministers.

PM Anthony Albanese and every member of his 22-person Cabinet, his seven-person Outer Ministry and all 12 assistant
ministers are members of the exclusive Chairman’s Lounge

Entry to the country’s six opulent VIP clubs are suitably discreet, but once inside, the
designer lounges offer free à la carte fine dining, table service and a
discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants

On the Coalition side of parliament, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, deputy leader David
Littleproud and former deputy Barnaby Joyce are also among the
swathes of politicians who have disclosed they have taken up free membership to the contentious club.

Bill Shorten is a member, Tanya Plibersek is still a member and so is
    Teal MP, Zali Steggall.

Last year it was reported that Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb
and Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe Longo and some of their deputies are
members of the Chairman’s Lounge despite regulating the airline.

Senior public servants in the club included Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet secretary Glyn Davis, deputy secretaries Nadine Williams, Liz
Hefren-Webb, Rachel Bacon and ambassador to Beijing, Scott Dewar.

Other Qantas freebies bestowed on members include numerous business class flight upgrades, model Qantas aircrafts, frequent flyer points,
and tickets to sporting and entertainment events.

Touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’, membership to the Chairman’s Lounge is still
    veiled in secrecy.

The new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston (above)
    has stirred up the controversy

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb and Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe Longo are members
    despite regulating the airline

Even the entrances to each of the country’s six opulent VIP clubs – in Sydney, Melbourne,
Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth airports –
    are suitably discreet.

Once inside, however, the designer lounges are noticeably luxurious, with free à la carte fine dining,
table service, a decadent selection of wines and Champagne
and a discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants.

Virgin Airlines has its own version of the VIP enclave, the ‘Beyond’ lounge.

Only a handful of federal politicians have relinquished
their membership to the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge in the wake of the furore.

The select few to take a principled stand on the issue include
South Australian senator Barbara Pocock and former Wallabies star turned ACT senator David
Pocock, along with MPs Stephen Bates, Queensland Green Elizabeth Watson-Brown, and Monique
    Ryan, a Teal from Victoria.

Geoffrey Watson SC, a former counsel assisting the Independent Commission Against Corruption and a director of
the Centre for Public Integrity, has implored all politicians
    and policymakers to follow suit.

‘There are certain positions in life where you cannot take Chairman’s Club
    membership,’ he said.

‘You’re taking public money for the job and you
are supposed to represent the public. Why not sit with them while you’re waiting for a
    plane?’

    that we’ve all heard before.

But what about having sex in a desert, or even a storage unit?
These are just two of the unusual sexual fantasies social media users have confessed to
    trying.

A hilarious Reddit thread, named ‘what is a sexual fantasy you do not recommend’, features the bizarre sexcapades of commenters — many of who bitterly regret their risqué acts.

The thread began with a question from user u/Fantastic-Ant-4429, who asked:
‘What is a sexual fantasy you do not recommend fulfilling?’

Having sex in the desert, a library and on a plane were
some of the most upvoted responses, Huffpost reported.

Reddit user u/ElPresidente714 admitted to trying to have sex in the desert
at night when coming back from Vegas. But in reality, they were met with
‘creepy crawly desert things don’t sleep at night’.

Another, u/DonSmitty said a ‘buddy in high school’ covered
his girlfriend (including her genitals) in chocolate syrup.

But it didn’t end well — she got infected with a ‘crazy’
    yeast infection.

Doing it in a storage unit was another unusual fantasy which ended badly.
User u/isthisfark wrote: ‘There’s a closing time and if you miss it you’ll get stuck behind the gates
for the night. Then the people who live there start rustling.’

Not everyone pursues or even plans to act on their sexual fantasies in real life.
But a handful of those who have tried to make their browser history a reality have confessed they didn’t quite go
to plan — a thread on Reddit revealed
