2015年に公開されて世界中で大ヒットしたジョージ・ミラー監督作『マッドマックス 怒りのデス・ロード』のスピンオフ映画『フュリオサ（原題） / Furiosa』の主要キャスト陣が決定した。現地時間13日、米ワーナー・ブラザースが発表した。
フュリオサは、荒廃した世界を恐怖と暴力で支配するイモータン・ジョーに反旗を翻した丸刈り頭＆義手の戦士で、『マッドマックス 怒りのデス・ロード』ではシャーリーズ・セロンが圧倒的な存在感で演じていた。
今作の主人公である若き日のフュリオサ役に決まったのは、以前から主演の可能性が報じられていた『スプリット』や『ザ・ニュー・ミュータンツ（原題） / The New Mutants』の若手女優アニャ・テイラー＝ジョイ。さらに『マイティ・ソー』シリーズのクリス・ヘムズワースと『アクアマン』のヤーヤ・アブドゥル＝マティーン二世もキャストに加わることになったが、今のところ彼らの役柄は明かされていない。
ミラー監督は脚本を共同執筆し、長年にわたる製作パートナーのダグ・ミッチェルと共にプロデュースすることになっている。
1979年に公開されたオリジナルの『マッドマックス』は、主人公マックス役にメル・ギブソンを据え、1981年の第2弾『マッドマックス2』、1985年の第3弾『マッドマックス/サンダードーム』まで作られた。マックス役を継いだトム・ハーディ主演作『マッドマックス 怒りのデス・ロード』は2015年に公開され、世界興行収入3億7,473万6,354ドル（約393億円）を上げたほか、第88回アカデミー賞に10部門でノミネートされ、6部門を受賞した。（数字は Box Office Mojo 調べ、1ドル105円計算）

マックスって主人公の名前だったんだな。警官のマックスが妻や子を害されて、犯人を虐殺するのが第1作。
それ以後、マックスはそれほど怒っていない。
