映画『007／ノー・タイム・トゥ・ダイ』のキャリー・フクナガ監督が手掛ける予定の広島への原爆投下を扱った映画『ショックウェイブ（原題） / Shockwave』で、映画『恋におちたシェクスピア』のトム・ストッパードが脚色を担当することが決定したと、フクナガ監督自身がウォール・ストリート・ジャーナルとのインタビューで明かした。
本作は、ユニバーサルのもとで数年間にわたって企画されている作品。元BBCドキュメンタリーの監督でもあるスティーヴン・ウォーカーが2005年に発表したノンフィクション「カウントダウン・ヒロシマ」（英題「Shockwave: Countdown to Hiroshima」）を基に映画化が進められている。米ニューメキシコ州の砂漠での原爆実験から広島への原爆投下までを描いたもので、原爆の開発に携わった科学者やトルーマン米大統領のほか、日本の軍部や広島の被爆者など、それぞれの立場で原爆に関わった人々にスポットを当てている。
ストッパードは、これまでに映画『未来世紀ブラジル』でテリー・ギリアムらと脚本を共同執筆したほか、スピルバーグ監督の『太陽の帝国』、ジョン・マッデン監督の『恋におちたシェイクスピア』、ジョー・ライト監督の『アンナ・カレーニナ』などの脚本を手掛け、『ローゼンクランツとギルデンスターンは死んだ』では監督も務めた。
製作は、映画『ウィンストン・チャーチル／ヒトラーから世界を救った男』のティム・ビーヴァンとエリック・フェルナーが、彼らの制作会社ワーキング・タイトル・フィルムズを通して行う。
現在、フクナガ監督は『007／ノー・タイム・トゥ・ダイ』の公開を来年の4月2日に控えており、アップルが製作する第2次世界大戦を扱ったミニシリーズ「マスターズ・オブ・ジ・エア（原題） / Masters of the Air」では、3エピソードメガホンを取る。その他、スティーヴン・スピルバーグ製作総指揮で、故スタンリー・キューブリックの未完の脚本「ナポレオン」を基に、HBOのもと新たな企画を進めていると報じられている。（細木信宏／Nobuhiro hosoki）

唯一本当の通りに描いたのはT2の夢のシーンのみ。
ウルヴァリンサムライの冒頭長崎でも後の爆風だけで全身大火傷するように変な改変してる
