「いらっしゃいませ〜」
東京・大森の映画館「キネカ大森」の入口で、ブルーの上っ張りに身を包んだ女性が客を出迎える。個性派俳優の片桐はいり（57）だ。片桐は有名になっても、時間が許す限り自宅近くのこの映画館に立ち続けている。チケットレス化や新型コロナウイルスの影響で現在はできないが、昨年までは「もぎり」（劇場の入り口で入場券の半分を切り離すこと）もしていた。
「自分の出自を問われたら、『映画館の出身』と答えたいです。俳優としての経歴を考えれば、『大学時代から小劇場の舞台に立ちまして……』と言うのがスジかもしれません。でも心の底では、演劇でもドラマでもなく、私は映画館の出身だとかたくなに思っています」
こう語るほど、片桐は大の映画好き。幼い頃から映画にのめり込み、見終わるとしばらく口もきけない。『ジョーズ』を鑑賞した後は、恐ろしさで湯船にもつかれなかったという。
「中学から女子校に通っていたのですが、学校生活や勉強に馴染めなくてね。唯一楽しかったのが、学校が催してくれた映画鑑賞会です。放課後には、おカネが許す限り有楽町や銀座の映画館に通っていました。内容はなんでも良かった。映画館で作中の別世界に入り込むことが、たまらなく面白かったんです」
映画の近くで働ける仕事がしたい。片桐は大学に進学したら、映画館で働こうと決めていた。
「大学（成蹊大）に入るなり、ずっと通っていた銀座や日比谷界隈の映画館に片っぱしから電話しました。日比谷スカラ座、日劇、丸の内ピカデリー、松竹セントラル……。でもこうした映画館は東宝や松竹の直営で、もぎり嬢も売店のスタッフも正社員が担当していました。唯一学生バイトを雇っていたのが銀座文化劇場、現在のシネスイッチ銀座です。80年代前半のことで、時給は450円。一日８時間で、週３日ほど働いていました」
歌舞伎界の大御所と大ゲンカ
一緒に働く仲間は、そろって映画好き。仕事中もその後も、ノドが痛くなるほど映画の話に明け暮れた。
「トラブルもありましたよ。銀座文化は一般席と指定席が分かれていました。ある時、誰もが知る歌舞伎界の大御所がいらした。その方は一般席のチケットを買うと、ドッカリと指定席に座ったんです。もちろん私もその方を知っていましたが、若気のいたりですかね。近くに行き『指定席の料金をお支払いください』と、ご注意したんです。
大御所はおかんむりのご様子。『いくら払やいいんだい？』と大音量でたずねられます。私の『窓口でお直り券をお求めください』という杓子定規の答えに、堪忍袋のおが切れた。手にした千円札を次々に投げつけ、こう怒鳴ったんです。『てめぇが買ってきやがれ！』と。
こうなると私も引っ込みがつきません。飛んでくる千円札をひっつかんでは投げ返し、裏声でこう叫びました。『ごごご、ご自分でお買いになってください！』。結局、大御所は千円札を鷲掴みにすると『帰る！』と言って映画館を後にされました」
当時の映画館では、痴漢などのトラブルは日常茶飯事。まだコーヒーショップやネットカフェもない時代で、仕事に疲れたサラリーマンが仮眠所としても利用していた。

キネカの上映映画を見たら相変わらずマイナー映画をやってくれてるんだな
もう古い映画をやってるところなんて激レアになったしここは古き良き映画館の雰囲気が残ってるんだよな
