それは狂乱の青春が辿り着いた絶望の果て。
1987年、ノルウェー・オスロ。19歳のギタリスト、ユーロニモスは、ヴォーカルの
デッドたちと共に「真のブラック・メタル」を追求する全く新しいバンド
「メイヘム」の活動に熱中していた。デッドはライブ中に自身の身体を切り刻み
観客にその血をかけた上、豚の頭を投げるなどの行為を繰り返し、その過激さも
あって「メイヘム」は熱狂的にブラック・メタル・シーンに受け入れられる。
しかし、ある日、デッドはショットガンで頭をブチ抜き、自殺を果たした・・・。
発見者のユーロニモスは親友の脳髄が飛び散る遺体の写真を撮り、頭蓋骨の欠片を
友人らに送付し、宣伝する事でカリスマ化。
レコードショップ「ヘルヴェラ（地獄）」を根城に“誰が一番邪悪か”を競う
インナーサークルを作り、王として君臨するようになる。シカシ、メンバーの
ヴァーグが起こした教会放火を契機に主導権争いは熾烈化。歯止めが効かなくなった
果て、彼らですら想像しえなかった狂乱が待ち受けていた。
