原作は、2018年2月発売直後より、感動傑作との多数の反響が大きな話題を集め、累計発行部数は77万部を突破。
血の繋がらない親の間をリレーされ、4回も苗字が変わった森宮優子。わけあって料理上手な義理の父親、森宮さんと二人暮らし。今は卒業式でピアノを弾く『旅立ちの日に』を猛特訓中。将来のこと恋のこと友達のこと、うまくいかないことばかり…。
そして、夫を何度も変えて自由奔放に生きる魔性の女・梨花。泣き虫な娘のみぃたんに精一杯愛情を注ぎ共に暮らしていたが、ある日突然、娘を残して姿を消してしまう—。全く違う2つの物語が繋がったとき、驚きとともに、今年最大の感動が訪れる。
主人公・優子を演じるのは、確かな演技力で人気と実力を兼ねそろえる永野。また、血の繋がらない父親・森宮さんは幅広い世代に支持のある田中が演じる。父親役はこれまでも演じているが、年の差がない永野との親子関係がどのように描かれるのか？これまで見たことのない親子に注目が集まる。

◆永野芽郁、母親から「実写化したら芽郁に演じて欲しい」と言われていた作品
本作の出演について、永野は「自分のお母さんが原作を読んでいて「実写化したら芽郁に演じて欲しい」と言われていた小説だったので、嬉しくなってすぐに脚本を読ませていただきました。今まで挑戦したことのない役どころでしたが、お母さんのためにも自分のためにも絶対にやりたい作品だと思いました。血の繋がりのない親子でも愛の深さを持てるんだ、そして感じたことのない愛の種類や温かさを知って、人との繋がりは強くなるんだと気づかされました」と特別な思い入れを語った。
田中とは初共演となるが「撮影現場でお会いした田中さんは「森宮さんがいる！」と思わず口に出てしまうほど、原作のイメージ通りの森宮さんでした。撮影中も、とても優しい方でずっと頼りにしてましたので、森宮さんと優子の親子関係をぜひ楽しみにしていただければと思います」と話した。
◆田中圭、永野芽郁の血の繋がらない父親に
田中は「脚本を読んだときは、変わった親子関係が描かれているので難しい役だなと思いましたね。娘のいる父親の役でしたので、実生活が武器になるかなと思い現場に入ったのですが、芽郁ちゃんとは年齢が全く違ったので残念ながら参考にならなかったですね（笑）。血の繋がらない親子の関係性を作るのが難しいなと思っていて実際に一筋縄ではいかなかったですが、芽郁ちゃん演じる優子ちゃんとは素敵な距離感になれたらいいなと思って演じました。いままで見たことのない親子像を作りたいと思って演じました」とコメントした。

石原は「私が演じる梨花はとても大胆不敵でちょっと理解しがたく謎の多いキャラクターですので、演じるのは難しいなと思いながら脚本を読みました。優しくて温かくて、でも切なくて愛があふれていて、原作と同じ読後感がありました。
初めての母親役でしたが、私の周りにもお友達の子供も多いですし、気負わずに演じることができたと思います。撮影の合間も（娘役の）くるみちゃんとずっと一緒にいましたし、肌と肌が触れている時間を多くしようと心がけていました。
触れていると心地よくなって、とても愛おしく楽しい時間をすごさせていただきました」と初めての母親役についてもコメントした。
血も時間も関係がなく、お互いが家族でありたいと強く願うことが、本当の意味の家族なのか。
