ダーレン・アロノフスキーが監督を務める「リミットレス with クリス・ヘムズワース」は、もしも老化現象に打ち勝ち、肉体が秘める最大の可能性を引き出せるとしたら？という問いかけのもと、ヘムズワースが自ら実験台となり、人体の限界に挑戦する6話構成のドキュシリーズ。
第5話でヘムズワースは、自身の遺伝的構成に母親と父親からひとつずつ受け継いだ2つの「APOE4」という遺伝子が含まれていることを知る。アメリカ国立衛生研究所が行なった最新の調査によると、
アルツハイマー病発症のリスクを高める性質を持つ同遺伝子を1つのみ保有する者が4人に1人であるのに対して、2つセットで保有する者は全体人口の2～3％と極めて珍しく、保有していない者と比べて発症する確率は8～10倍にもなるという。
米バニティ・フェア誌のインタビューで衝撃的事実が発覚した瞬間を振り返り、「それを聞いて、休みをとりたいと思ったんだ。番組の撮影を終えたあと、出演契約をしていた仕事も全て片付けたし、この宣伝ツアーが終わったら故郷に戻ってしばらく休みをとることにしたよ。
妻や子どもたちと一緒に、シンプルな生活を送るつもりだ」と一時休業を宣言したヘムズワースだが、「心配ではあるけれど、確実にアルツハイマーになると宣告されたわけではないし、俳優業かを引退するわけでもない」と断言。
また、問題のシーンを削除しようかという配給元ディズニーの申し出をキッパリ断ったことも明かしたヘムズワースは、「変にドラマチックな演出で同情を引こうとするのではなく、見た人たちがより入念な健康管理を心がけ、予防措置があるということを知るきっかけになるんだったら、是が非でも放送すべきだと思ったんだ」と語る。
