問題の写真には、粉じんにまみれ流血メークを施した俳優らや、かちんこが写っている。バッシャール・アサド（Bashar al-Assad）大統領の支持者らはこれらの写真について、東グータのドゥーマ（Douma）で今月7日に行われたとされる塩素とサリンによる毒ガス攻撃が捏造されたことを証明するものだと主張していた。
しかしこれらの写真は、実際にはシリア文化省の後援を受け同国で制作された映画『革命の男（Revolution Man、原題）』の撮影現場を捉えたもので、同作のフェイスブック（Facebook）公式ページに掲載されていた。同作の初上映については、国営シリア・アラブ通信（SANA）も先月9日に報じており、これは化学兵器攻撃疑惑の1か月前に当たる。
SANAによると、映画は名声を得るために「シリア内戦の写真や動画を撮影しようと、同国に不法入国した」ジャーナリストが主人公。目標を果たせなかった主人公は、「自身の写真に世界的な影響力を持たせるため、化学兵器攻撃を捏造する」というあらすじだという。
検証サイト「べリングキャット（Bellingcat）」によると、これらの写真はロシア国営テレビ局「第1チャンネル（Russia 1）」でも取り上げられ、化学兵器攻撃がでっち上げであることの証拠とされていた。
ホワイト・ヘルメットは、爆弾攻撃の被災地のがれきの中から人々を救い出す果敢な救出活動を続け、何千人もの民間人の命を救ったとされ、その活動を捉えた動画はインターネット上で頻繁に話題を呼んでいる。(c)AFP
