ニュージーランドの映画館が観客にきちんとした服装をしてもらおうと、パジャマなどを禁止する服装規定を導入したのをめぐって、ソーシャルメディア上で議論が沸騰している。
同国北島にあるハウェラ・シネマズは、寝間着で映画を観に来る人が最近増えていると話す。同映画館はフェイスブックに、パジャマや幼児などが着るつなぎスタイルの部屋着「ワンジー」、汚れたブーツの着用を館内で禁止すると投稿。これらの服装が適切な「雰囲気」を生み出していないと付け加えた。
ファッション警察？
映画館でマネージャーを務めるカースティ・バーク氏はBBCに対し、2カ月前から「パジャマを着ていたり、汚れたゴム長靴やワークブーツを履いているお客さんが増えた」とし、「なので多くのレストランやクラブと同じように服装規定を導入することを決めた」と語った。
「支持の声はものすごかった。喜んだお客が声をかけてくれるのが一日中続いた」
フェイスブックでも多くの人が服装規定に賛成しており、それに反するような服は元々着て行ったりしない、とコメントしていた。
フェイスブックには、「服装についての社会の基準が急激に低下したように思う。夜のお出かけにきちんとした服装する習慣はどうなったんだろう。パジャマは寝る時にだけ着るもので、ゴム長靴は農場で履くものだ」、「出かけるときに服を着るよう言わなくちゃいけないってことにすごく驚く。スーパーマーケットでも同じ通知が必要だ」、「みんな、ちゃんとした服を着ようよ。あああああ、こんなこと口にしなくちゃいけないのが信じられないけど、（映画館は）よくやった」などのコメントが寄せられた。
しかし、賛成意見ばかりではない。一部の人は映画館が口を出すようなことではないとし、服装は客が自由に選べるべきだと主張した。
「わあ、君たちがファッション警察だとは知らなかった」とのコメントに、映画館は、「ファッション警察になろうとはしていません。パジャマやワンジー、ドレッシングガウンは単に、私たちの映画館が目指す雰囲気には合いません。ありがとう」と返答。
また、「私は外でパジャマを着る女の子ってタイプじゃないけど、外でパジャマを着ている人たちが迷惑になるとは思えないから、規則が必要な理由も分からない」とのコメントには、「この町の、ほかの多くの事業者や人々と同様、私たちはパジャマやワンジー、ドレッシングガウンを外で着てもいいと考える人々が増加傾向にあると気付きました。それはここ、ハウェラ・シネマズで推奨したい雰囲気や環境ではありません。それでこのような投稿をしたのです。ありがとう」と応じた。
「入場を拒否する」
フェイスブックで活発な議論がされるなか、映画館によると、新たな服装規定が先週末に導入されてからも、苦情は寄せられていないという。
バーク氏は、「もしお客さんがパジャマでやってきたら入場を拒否する」と警告する。バーク氏は、新たな規定が売り上げには影響を及ぼさないと確信している。
バーク氏は、「服装規定を導入しなければ、もっと顧客を失うはずだ」とし、「昔からレストランやクラブには服装規定があったのだから、映画館にあってもいいはず」と語った。
