タイで、米俳優レオナルド・ディカプリオ（Leonardo DiCaprio）さん主演の映画『ザ・ビーチ（The Beach）』の舞台になったことから観光客が殺到し、環境破壊が進んだため無期限で閉鎖されていたマヤ湾（Maya Bay）に、閉鎖から半年でサメの一種のツマグロが多数戻ってきていることが分かった。自然保護活動家らは「明るい兆し」と歓迎している。

　印象的な石灰岩の崖に囲まれたピピ・レイ島（Koh Phi Phi Ley）のマヤ湾は、2000年の同作の舞台となったことで一躍有名になった。

　それにより、多数の観光客を乗せたモーターボートが連日押し寄せ、サンゴの生態系が被害を受け、かつては真っ白だった砂浜も浸食されてしまった。

　当局は6月にマヤ湾への立ち入りを一時的に禁止していたが、生態系が回復するまで閉鎖期間を無期限に延長していた。

　管理関係者らは30日、多数のツマグロが浜辺付近まで近づいて悠々と泳ぐ様子を捉えた映像を公開。自撮りする観光客であふれていた閉鎖前には想像もできなかった光景だ。

　同湾の閉鎖を促した海洋生物学者はこの映像に喜び、フェイスブック（Facebook）に「どういう気分かって？ 涙が出そうだ。当初は（回復が）ここまで順調とは思いもしなかった、半年しか経っていないのだから」とつづった。

　ただ当局は、マヤ湾を再び開放する可能性やその時期については明らかにしていない。匿名で取材に応じたタイ国立公園・野生動物・植物保全局（DNP）の職員は、「サンゴ礁の回復にはより長い時間がかかるだろう」との見解を示した。(c)AFP

本人的にはタイタニックのあとにダニーボイル的なラリった若者映画に出て
ストリートな同世代感を演出したかったんだろうけど
作られたのはアイドル映画

ファイトクラブとか、映画の影響力がまだ凄まじかった時代

この映画でダニー・ボイルがディカプリオを主演にしたから、ユアン・マクレガーがキレて仲違いしちゃったんだよな。
で、トレインスポッティング2に続編作るのに20年以上かかって、変な駄作になっちゃった。
