アカデミー賞を主催する映画芸術科学アカデミー（AMPAS）が、米ロサンゼルスに2019年後半にオープン予定のアカデミー映画博物館で、初の企画展として宮崎駿監督のレトロスペクティブを開催すると発表した。
同館とスタジオジブリがコラボレートして行う「The Miyazaki Retrospective」は、宮崎監督のこれまでの作品を一挙紹介するもので、各映画の製作過程で実際に使われたスケッチやデザイン画などを展示するようだ。アメリカにおける宮崎監督の展覧会としては、過去最大規模になるという。
また同館では長期の展覧会として、映画創成期からの技術発展と社会的・文化的影響の歴史を振り返るエキシビジョン「Where Dreams Are Made: A Journey Inside the Movies（仮題）」も同時開催。2020年秋には、アフリカ系アメリカ人の映画作家たちの歴史にスポットをあてるブラックシネマ特集企画「Regeneration: Black Cinema 1900-1970」も開催する。
宮崎監督は、2003年に「千と千尋の神隠し」でアカデミー賞長編アニメーション賞を受賞。「ハウルの動く城」「風立ちぬ」でも同賞にノミネートされた。また、14年に日本人監督としては黒澤明以来、2人目となるアカデミー賞名誉賞を贈られ、「アニメーションの芸術的才能で、世界中のフィルムメーカーたちと観客の想像力を刺激したストリーテラーの巨匠」として表彰された。

建設中なのは知っていたが、まさか初っぱなから日本人、それも宮崎駿の展覧会が組まれるとは。

近年のアメリカでは、一般の映画館でジブリ映画が繰り返しリバイバル上映されていて、このようになる機運は盛り上がっていたのかも知れない。
アカデミー授賞式にもいかなかったのにか？
わざわざ展覧会する意味もないから
評価は高いけど知られてないところ
そういう意味合いかな
日本でそうだったように世界でも一気に「アニメ」が市民権を得るよ。
こう言う変化は
ガキの頃カリ城、ナウシカ、ラピュタと見て日本でこれだけ面白い物が有るのだから世界にはもっと凄い面白い物が有るに違いない
と夢が広がりんぐだったけど今現在でも思い出補正抜きで同系統でパヤオ作品超えたと思えるの無いもんな
もののけも良かったし千と千尋も毛色は違うけど最高だね
