ヒットメイカーのディック・ウルフ（『LAW & ORDER』）が手掛ける米NBCの『
シカゴ・ファイア』とそのスピンオフ、『
シカゴ P.D.』と『
シカゴ・メッド』の計3作品が揃って次シーズンへ更新されることが明らかとなった。米TV Lineなどが報じている。
シカゴの消防署を舞台にした『シカゴ・ファイア』はシーズン8、シカゴ市警が舞台となる『シカゴ P.D.』はシーズン7、シカゴの病院が舞台の『シカゴ・メッド』はシーズン5へと更新。NBCドラマ部門責任者のリサ・カッツとトレイシー・パコスタは、更新を受けて以下のような声明を発表した。「プロデューサーであるディック・ウルフ、キャスト、そしてスタッフが今日のTV業界で高い人気を保つ作品を製作し続けてくれていることにはいまだに驚きを隠せません。『シカゴ』シリーズは弊社の作品の要です。それぞれのキャラクターと作品に情熱を注いで（3作が連続で放送されている）毎週水曜日に視聴してくれるファンたちがいることを大変嬉しく思います」
『シカゴ・ファイア』と『シカゴ・メッド』はそれぞれ今シーズン平均1.3レーティングをマークと、同局の大ヒットヒューマンドラマ『THIS IS US』に次いでNBCのドラマ作品として2番目に高い数字を誇る。『シカゴ P.D.』は2作よりちょっと少ない1.1レーティングで同6位。毎週の平均視聴者は、『シカゴ・メッド』が840万人、『シカゴ・ファイア』が810万人、『シカゴ P.D.』が720万人を獲得している。
現在米国では『シカゴ』シリーズは、水曜日の20時から23時までの3時間連続放送中。3作のクロスオーバーエピソードとなれば3時間にも及ぶ映画並みのストーリーが展開されることもあり、多大な人気を誇っている。（海外ドラマNAVI）
