貴族と使用人の間で巻き起こる愛憎劇を描き、世界中で大ヒットを記録した英ITVの『ダウントン・アビー』。今年の秋に映画版の公開を控える本作で、執事カーソン役を演じたジム・カーターが、英国王室チャールズ皇太子から大英帝国勲章を授与された。米Vanityfairが報じている。
3月13日（木）、バッキンガム宮殿に招待されたジムは、セレモニーに出席。OBE（大英帝国勲章）を手に持ち、妻で女優のイメルダ・スタウントン（『ハリー・ポッター』シリーズ）と共に笑顔で記念撮影を行った。ちなみにイメルダは、2016年にCBE（大英帝国勲章コマンダー）という名誉をすでに与えられている。今回のジムの授与を知り、イメルダは大変喜んだとジムは語っている。
だが、今回の喜びを他にも分かち合いたかった人がいたようだ。「今回の喜ばしい知らせには、99歳になる母モリーも大変喜んでいます。この報道を聞いてとても元気になりました」続けて、自身の心境としてはジムらしく謙虚に答えた。「『ダウントン・アビー』のおかげだと思っております。ドラマへの貢献ということで今回この勲章を頂きました。ですが正直私がどんな貢献をしたかよくわかりません。この業界でもう49年ものキャリアを積んでおりますので、そのキャリアの長さでということでしょうか。『ダウントン・アビー』で、顔を知られるようになりとても感謝しております。特に、チャリティーや資金調達などの寄付イベントで、とても助かっているのです。それがこの作品の素晴らしいところです。世に知られ、その力を何か人のために使うことができるのですから」
また、秋の公開される映画版にも出演するジムは、「映画版は良いと思いましたよ。（先代グランサム伯爵夫人バイオレット役の）マギー・スミスも出演していますしね。彼女のお墨付きです」と映画版への期待を明かした。
ジムの活躍が楽しみな映画版『ダウントン・アビー』は、イギリスで9月13日（金）より公開スタート予定。日本でのリリースは不明。（海外ドラマNAVI）
