出演決定のニュースを受け、自身のInstagramに懐かしいキャストたちとの海辺での写真を掲載したシャナン。「ええ、（出演は）本当よ。でも問題なのは、まだ（この写真のようなTシャツとジーンズ）が着こなせるかどうかってことね」とコメントしている。
第一報では、ジェイソン・プリーストリー（ブランドン・ウォルシュ役）、ジェニー・ガース（ケリー・テイラー役）、アイアン・ジーリング（スティーブ・サンダース役）、ブライアン・オースティン・グリーン（デビッド・シルバー役）、トーリ・スペリング（ドナ・マーティン役）、ガブリエル・カーテリス（アンドレア・ザッカーマン役）の6人が決定していた。
だが奇しくも、このリバイバル版が話題になった直後の現地時間2月27日（水）に、ディラン・マッケイ役のルーク・ペリーが重度の脳卒中のため病院に緊急搬送され、その後家族や共演者、世界中のファンの願いも叶わらず現地時間3月4日（月）享年52で帰らぬ人となってしまった。その時はルーク、シャナンの二人は、本作への復帰を発表していなかった。
全6話構成のリバイバル版は、オリジナル版と同じ米FOXが製作を手がけ、タイトルも同じ『90210（原題）』だという。そしてその内容は、ジェイソンがブランドンを、ジェニーがケリーなど同役を演じるわけではなく、19年の歳月を経て成長したジェイソンやジェニーら自身が、自分たちのリアルな人生と人間関係にインスパイアされたストーリーが描いていく。
『ビバヒル』をシーズン4で卒業した後のシャナンは、『チャームド〜魔女3姉妹』で主役の一人プルーを演じ、『New Normal おにゅ〜な家族のカタチ』や『ウィッチスレイヤー 捕らわれのグレーテル』などに出演。また2015年2月に乳がん発症、抗がん剤治療を続け癌と戦う姿を公表し、2017年には寛解状態となり日々元気になっていく様子を伝えていた。
