名作ミュージカルの映画化作品『キャッツ（原題） / CATS』の予告編（海外版）が初公開され、インターネット上では「こう来たか！」というビジュアルに恐れおののくファンが続出している。米ユニバーサル・ピクチャーズの公式YouTubeチャンネルではアップから4時間程度で高評価が1万4,000人、低評価が1万4,000人と賛否真っ二つとなっている。
「キャッツ」は、人に飼いならされることを拒んだ猫たちが都会のごみ捨て場で歌い踊るさまを描き、世界各地でロングランとなった巨匠アンドリュー・ロイド・ウェバー作曲のミュージカル。ミュージカル映画『レ・ミゼラブル』を大成功させたトム・フーパー監督の下に、ジェニファー・ハドソン、イドリス・エルバ、ジェームズ・コーデン、イアン・マッケラン、ジュディ・デンチ、テイラー・スウィフトら豪華キャストが集った。
『ドリームガールズ』でアカデミー賞助演女優賞に輝いたジェニファーが代表曲「メモリー」をさすがの歌唱力で歌い上げる感動的なシーンもあるが、多くの人々が注目したのはデジタルテクノロジーによって猫化したキャストたちの姿だ。YouTubeのコメント欄には「トラウマになった」「踊りも歌も素晴らしいけど、猫が……猫が……」「なぜ皆が不満を言っているのかわからない。ホラー映画の新作を観るのはいつだって素晴らしいじゃないか」といったコメントがあふれ、「ソニックを超えてきた」と予告編でのビジュアルが不評で作り直しになった『ソニック・ザ・ムービー』を引き合いに出す人も多い。
