マーベル・シネマティック・ユニバースにはフェーズ（段階）という区切りが設けられており、フェーズ3は現在公開中の『スパイダーマン：ファー・フロム・ホーム』を持って幕を閉じる。先日まで米サンディエゴで開催されていた「コミコン・インターナショナル2019」では、フェーズ4以降のラインナップが一挙発表されていた。
LGBTQヒーローの一人は、『マイティ・ソー』シリーズのヴァルキリーだ。演じるテッサ・トンプソンはこれまでも「ヴァルキリーはバイセクシャル」だと公言してきたが、劇中で明確にそれとわかる場面はなかった。しかし、コミコンのパネルディスカッションに登壇したテッサは、「『アベンジャーズ／エンドゲーム』を経てアズガルドの王となったヴァルキリーは、最初に何をすることになるの？」と司会に問われると、「新たなキングとして、彼女のクイーンを見つけないといけないわね」と新作『ソー：ラブ・アンド・サンダー（原題） / Thor: Love and Thunder』について語り、会場を沸かせた。
『ソー：ラブ・アンド・サンダー（原題）』ではヴァルキリーがLGBTQコミュニティに属していることがはっきりと描かれるということか、とColliderに直撃されたファイギは「はい、そういうことです。それにヴァルキリーだけでなく、今日僕たちが発表したいくつかの映画のほかのキャラクターたちもそうなるでしょう」と明言。以前からウワサのあった『ジ・エターナルズ（原題） / The Eternals』にもLGBTQのキャラクターが登場すると認めたという。
『ジ・エターナルズ（原題）』はスーパーパワーと不死の肉体を持つ種族の物語で、アンジェリーナ・ジョリー、リチャード・マッデン、サルマ・ハエック、クメイル・ナンジアニ、マ・ドンソク、ブライアン・タイリー・ヘンリーら多様性あふれるキャストが集っている。2020年11月6日全米公開。シリーズ第4弾『ソー：ラブ・アンド・サンダー（原題）』は2021年11月5日に全米公開される。（編集部・市川遥）
