日本発の人気キャラクター、ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグをハリウッドが実写映画化した『ソニック・ザ・ムービー』の新たな公開日が6月26日に決定した。
ソニックは、1991年に株式会社セガ・エンタープライゼス（現・株式会社セガ）が発売した人気アクションゲームで活躍する、音速で走る青いハリネズミ。世界中のゲームファンから熱い支持を受けており、日本に先立って公開されたアメリカでは、興行収入が1億4,600万ドル（約160億円）に達し、アメリカで最も売れたビデオゲーム原作映画になった。
日本では3月27日の公開を予定していたが、新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大の影響により公開延期が決定。緊急事態宣言の解除・緩和による全国的な映画館の営業再開を受けて、遅れること約3か月での公開が決定した。
『ソニック・ザ・ムービー』は、生まれ故郷をはなれて地球に降り立ったソニックと警官トム（ジェームズ・マースデン）のコンビが、ソニックの力を利用しようとする悪の天才科学者ドクター・ロボトニック（ジム・キャリー）に立ち向かうアドベンチャー映画。日本語吹き替え版では、俳優の中川大志がソニックの声を、山寺宏一がドクター・ロボトニックの声を担当する。（編集部・入倉功一）
