今月初めにノンバイナリーの俳優で映画『ジョン・ウィック』やドラマ「ビリオンズ」に出演しているエイジア・ケイト・ディロンはSAG賞を主催する全米俳優組合(SAG）に書簡を送付、「SAG賞のカテゴリーを変える必要がある。男性と女性、男性とシスジェンダー及び非シスジェンダーを含む女性の2つに分けて考えることで、ノンバリナリーの俳優を排除しているためである。SAGはジェンダーバイナリーを支援する必要がある」とコメント、俳優部門の賞を男優と女優に分けるべきではないと訴えた。SAG賞は毎年1月に開催され、アカデミー賞の前哨戦として注目されている。
SAGはエイジアに対して今週返答を送付、エイジアがその内容を雑誌『バラエティ』のオンライン版に公開した。それによるとSAGは「多様性の受容に関して、まだやるべきことはある。しかし次の授賞式では賞のカテゴリーは従来のままとする。変えるには、より広い議論が必要だから」と答えている。また「ジェンダーによって分けずに1つのカテゴリーにすると、ジェンダー間の均衡や人種と民族の多様性に関する問題が出てくる」という見解も示している。
エイジアは「この決定に失望している」と同サイトにコメント。また「演技部門のカテゴリーを女性と男性に分けることが人種や民族の多様性を確保するのに必要という論理には疑問がある」と批判している。
男女別に賞をもうけることにより、ノンバイナリーなど多様なジェンダーの人たちをその人自身の認識するジェンダーで受け入れられなくなっているのはSAG賞だけの問題ではない。エイジアが具体的に声をあげたことでこれからエンタメ界全体に変化が生まれるのか、注目したい。
全米映画俳優組合賞
全米映画俳優組合賞（Screen Actors Guild Awards, 略称: SAG）は、アメリカの映画賞のひとつ。1995年から映画俳優組合が運営。アカデミー賞のアカデミー会員とメンバーが重なることが多いため、アカデミー賞を占う意味では、最重要な賞と位置づけられている。授賞式はシュライン・オーディトリアムで1月最終日曜日に開催。TNTとTBSで同時放送される。
