柳楽優弥さん、有村架純さん、先日亡くなった三浦春馬さんが共演し、8月15日にNHK総合などで放映されたNHKの国際共同制作・特集ドラマ「太陽の子」の、テレビドラマとは違う視点で描かれた映画版が2021年に公開されることが発表された。
同ドラマは原爆開発を背景に、時代に翻弄される若者たちの苦悩と青春を描いた、事実をもとにした青春群像劇。NHKとアメリカの ELEVEN ARTS Studios による日米合作作品として製作された。柳楽さんが京大物理学研究室で研究に勤しむ実験好きの若き科学者・石村修、三浦さんが修の弟で戦地から一時帰宅する裕之、有村さんが修と裕之の兄弟が秘かに想いを寄せる朝倉世津を演じた。
映画版について主演の柳楽さんは「前回のドラマでは、断片的だった物語の続きが映画ではしっかりと描かれます。科学者の苦悩や葛藤も描かれています」と紹介している。
ドラマは終戦記念日の8月15日に放送されるとTwitterのトレンド入りを果たすなど多くの反響が寄せられた。テレビドラマ「火の魚」「セカンドバージン」などの黒崎博監督が監督・脚本を務めた。共演はイッセー尾形さん、山本晋也さん、國村隼さん、田中裕子さん、ピーター・ストーメアさんら。（編集部・海江田宗）

このお話をいただいた時、戦争というものを僕達の下の世代にも伝えなければいけないと強く感じました。私が演じた修は、研究に対する情熱を燃やしながら自分の行為に疑いを持ち、葛藤していきます。彼の問いを意識しながら、監督と毎日話し合い、自分たちの中での答えを探しながら演じさせていただきました。前回のドラマでは、断片的だった物語の続きが映画ではしっかりと描かれます。科学者の苦悩や葛藤も描かれています。当たり前だった日常や幸せを尊く思える今だからこそ、国内外多くの方にこの作品を見届けていただけたら嬉しいです。

戦時中、どれだけの想いを抱えて皆様が生きておられたか、想像してもしても、計り知れません。人々が繋いできてくれた歴史に沿って、自分は生かされているんだと、私はこの作品に参加し改めて感じることができました。きっと当時も、今自分が見ている景色と同じように、太陽の光や緑豊かな木々、何もかも鮮明に映し出され感じ取っていたに違いないと思うと、生きてゆく日々が当たり前でないことを痛感しましたし、再び惨劇の場とならないよう願いたいと思います。ぜひ、ご覧いただき、一緒に考えていけたら幸いです。
