今もなお絶大な支持を集めるマンガ家・冨樫義博の代表作『幽遊白書』がついに実写化するという。Netflixの企画・製作で進められるという本作は、すでに世界190か国に向けて配信されることも決まっているが、注目されるのはそのキャストだ。マンガでは主人公・浦飯幽助が中学生の設定ということもあり、すでにさまざまな若手俳優の名前が噂されているが、制作会社関係者は中でも有力視される人物の名前をこう語る。
「いまのところ幽助役に北村匠海、飛影役に本郷奏多の名前があがっている。飛影に関しては特に主要キャラの中でも女性人気が高く、誰が演じてもブーイングが起こりそうだけど（苦笑）。しかし、本郷は演技力に定評があるし、目元のどんよりした感じなんかは結構ハマってると思います」（制作会社関係者）
北村はいま若手ナンバーワン俳優として多くの作品に引っ張りだこで、来年には『砕け散るところを見せてあげる』『東京リベンジャーズ』と2本の映画公開がすでに控えている。一方で今年公開されたマンガの実写化映画『とんかつDJアゲ太郎』は大爆死の様相を呈した。
「『とんかつDJアゲ太郎』は不運続きでしたけど、北村の演技が悪かったという声は聞かない。むしろ『幽遊白書』でアゲ太郎の汚名を返上できるかもしれない。しかし、アゲ太郎よりも失敗のケースでよぎるのは北村&本郷と同じくスターダスト所属の山崎賢人が主演した『ジョジョの奇妙な冒険』ですよ。あれも制作費がかかった割には、興行収入10億円にも届かないという惨敗ぶりでしたからね。そして何より山崎の評判を落としたことも痛かった。それなのにスターダストは懲りてない様子ですね（苦笑）。良く言えば果敢、悪く言えば無謀です」（芸能事務所関係者）
同じジャンプ作品でもある『ジョジョの奇妙な冒険』の轍を踏むはめになるのか、それともNetflixの潤沢な予算で傑作を作り上げるのか。すでにシリーズ化も決まっているという『幽遊白書』実写化の行方を見守りたい。
