24日、アニメ「TIGER & BUNNY 2」のティザーPVが、BN Pictures の公式YouTubeチャンネルで公開され、2022年4月8日に、パート1（第1話〜13話）がNetflixシリーズとして配信されることが明らかになった。主題歌は、テレビ版OPと劇場版2作品の主題歌を担当してきた UNISON SQUARE GARDEN の新曲「kaleido proud fiesta」に決定した。
漫画家・桂正和がキャラクター原案を手掛けた「TIGER & BUNNY」は、実在のスポンサー企業のロゴを背負った「NEXT」と呼ばれる特殊能力者たちを描くヒーローアニメ。2011年のテレビ放映後、2012年に『劇場版 TIGER & BUNNY -The Beginning-』が、2014年に『劇場版 TIGER & BUNNY -The Rising-』が公開された。
新作では、ワイルドタイガーこと鏑木・T・虎徹役の平田広明（虎徹役）、その相棒バーナビー・ブルックスJr.役の森田成一ら主要ボイスキャストが続投。平和のため、そして所属企業「アポロンメディア」のイメージアップのため、ヒーロー活動を続けていた虎徹とバーナビー。都市シュテルンビルト発祥の“ヒーローシステム”は今や世界各地で導入され、新たなヒーローも続々と加入していくなか、先輩としての活躍も期待される虎徹とバーナビーだが……。
新シリーズへの主題歌提供にあたり、UNISON SQUARE GARDEN の田淵智也は、『The Rising』に提供した「harmonized finale」をもって「僕の役目は終えたつもりでした。ロックバンドとして一つの作品への関わり方はきちんと終わりがあった方が良いと思っているからで、その約束を自分と交わしました」と告白。尾崎雅之プロデューサーからオファーを受けた際も「過去の自分との約束を守るつもりでした」というが、本作の制作に至る経緯や熱意を聞くうちに「昔の大切な記憶が蘇ってきました」と明かす。
「『強いだけがヒーローじゃ無いと思うんです。』そう話す尾崎さんに物作りの姿勢、信念の貫き方を教えてもらったという記憶です。過去の自分に謝ります。約束を破ることにしました。『TIGER & BUNNY 2』オープニングテーマを作らせていただきます、UNISON SQUARE GARDEN です。全力でやります」
一方の尾崎プロデューサーは「逡巡はありましたが、制作スタッフやこれまで支えてくださった方々の純粋な期待と、これから作品に出会う方々への想いを胸に、自分自身に素直になって全身全霊でオファーさせて頂きました」とオファーを回顧。そのうえで「無邪気な願いを真っ直ぐ受け止め過去と向き合う覚悟を決めてくれたこと、制作過程での提案にも想像を超える打ち返しで真摯に応えてくれたこと、凄まじいプレッシャーのなか素晴らしいパフォーマンスで曲を紡ぎ出してくれたこと、田淵君はじめメンバーとスタッフの皆さんに心から感謝します。時代を超えて“誇り”を問う、今後長くそれぞれの人生に寄り添えるであろう主題歌になると信じています。楽曲、作品、そして関わる全ての人々に、祝祭の鐘が鳴らんことを！」とコメントしている。
楽曲はティザーPV内でも一部使用されており、4月13日にシングルをリリース予定。また、来年3月12日に幕張メッセで開催される「TIGER & BUNNY 2 Precious EVE」にも同バンドが出演するといい、当日のイベント内で新曲を初披露する。（編集部・入倉功一）
