田島列島「水は海に向かって流れる」の実写映画化が決定。主演を広瀬すず、監督を前田哲が担当し、2023年6月に全国公開される。

「水は海に向かって流れる」は、高校進学を機におじさんの家に居候することになった青年・直達と、彼が一緒に暮らす男女を描く物語。直達と同じ家で暮らすことになったどこか冷めたOL・榊千紗との関係を軸に、個性豊かな住人たちとのやり取りが描かれる。別冊少年マガジン（講談社）にて連載され、単行本は全3巻が刊行された。

映画では榊千紗役を広瀬すずが担当。ティザービジュアルではクールな表情を浮かべた広瀬演じる榊の姿が切り取られた。
また特報映像では、劇中の重要なシーンの1つである「ある雨の日の思いがけない出会い」がお目見え。
広瀬演じる榊の不機嫌そうな声と表情、海で美しく映し出される横顔、「俺がいなければ、この人の肩が濡れることはなかったのに」という言葉が映し出された。

田島は主演の広瀬について「えっあのフィルムに愛された女優広瀬すずですか!?とイチ邦画ファンとしちゃ普通に観たい…と思いました」とコメント。
また映画については「印象に残ったのはラストシーンで、脚本を読んだ段階ではわからなかった、音楽も合わさって生まれる映像ならではのエモさ、コレ、漫画じゃ出来ねんだよなあーと思いました」と太鼓判を押している。
