世界累計利用者数3500万人を突破した人気ゲームアプリ『モンスターストライク』（通称モンスト）が
Yotubeオリジナルアニメを経て、劇場版長編アニメ『モンスターストライク THE MOVIE』として、
12月10日に公開されることが24日、わかった。
2013年にリリースされた『モンスト』は、腕を競い合うイベントを開催すれば日本全国から参加者が
押し寄せる人気コンテンツになり、15年10月10日にはYouTubeでオリジナルアニメの配信がスタート。
1話約7分という短い物語でありながら、ゲームの世界を拡張させたストーリーや、アニメ内に仕掛けられた
謎解きがアプリとリンクする仕掛けもあり、第1話を配信すると2日目で100万回再生を突破。16年7月16日には
世界累計再生回数8000万回超えを記録した。
劇場版長編アニメーションでプロデューサーを務めるのは、テレビアニメ『翠星のガルガンティア』の
平澤直氏、ストーリー構成は『妖怪ウォッチ』のテレビ・映画版、テレビアニメ『宇宙兄弟』を手掛けた
加藤陽一氏。脚本は、『ハイキュー！！』『僕だけがいない街』など話題作で脚本を担当した岸本卓氏、
監督はアニメ『ガンスリンガーストラトス』の江崎慎平氏が務める。
物語の主な舞台は、『モンスト』が誕生したばかりの日本。行方知れずの父を追い求めて戦いに身を投じる、
少年レンと仲間たち。しかしその背後には、邪悪な闘神の影が迫っていた。
江崎監督は「大人のお客さんにはかつてのすてきな気持ちを思い起こしてもらい、子どもたちには
日々過ごしている時間が宝物なのだ、と感じてもらえるような作品をお届けします」とコメントを寄せ、
脚本の岸本氏は「少年たちが手にしているのはスマホという最新機器だけど、目的地にたどり着くためには、
結局自分の足で歩くしかない…。デジタルなのにアナログで、イマドキなのに泥臭い。そんなドラマを
目指しました」と話している。
声優情報や登場キャラクター、主題歌などの詳報は今後発表される。
