『キングスマン』シリーズのタロンがエルトン役で、テレビドラマ「ゲーム・オブ・スローンズ」や「ボディガード -守るべきもの-」のリチャードがエルトンの当時のマネージャーで恋人でもあったジョン・リード役だ。ちなみにジョン・リードはクイーンのマネージャーとしても知られ、『ボヘミアン・ラプソディ』ではエイダン・ギレンが演じていた。まだ編集作業中ながら先週行われたフッテージ上映会では、本作がエルトンの薬物依存やセクシャリティーにも深く踏み込んだ意欲作になっていることがわかったという。
しかし、米パラマウント・ピクチャーズは、デクスター・フレッチャー監督とプロデューサーのマシュー・ヴォーン（『キングスマン』シリーズなど）にタロンとリチャードが演じるラブシーンをカットするよう要求していると Daily Mail Online は報道。『ボヘミアン・ラプソディ』と同様に鑑賞者を制限しないPG-13で公開したいからだという。The Hollywood Reporter もFワードも複数使われる同ラブシーンや、コカインのシーンについて、映画製作者たちとパラマウントの間で話し合いがもたれていると伝えている。
パラマウントからシーンカットの圧力をかけられているという報道を受け、フレッチャー監督は「まだ完成前だから、ウワサ以上のなにものでもない。この映画は今もこれからも何の制限もされないミュージカルファンタジーで、パラマウントとプロデューサーたちも情熱的にサポートしてくれているし、信じてくれている。5月24日（イギリスでの公開日）に自分で確かめてみて」とツイートしている。主演のタロンも以前から『ロケットマン』はR指定になると語っており、製作陣にはやりたいことを貫いてもらいたいところ。日本公開は年内の予定だ。（編集部・市川遥）
