俳優の佐藤健が主演を務める大人気シリーズ映画『るろうに剣心 最終章 The Final／The Beginning』の新公開日が4日、発表された。『The Final』が来年4月23日、『The Beginning』が6月4日に続けて公開される。

本作では、志々雄真実（藤原竜也）との死闘の後、神谷道場で平和に過ごした剣心たちに突如として攻撃が開始され、明かされなかった剣心の過去と消えることのない十字傷への謎につながる。原作では最後のエピソードとなる「人誅篇」をベースとした縁とのクライマックスが描かれる『The Final』、剣心が過去を語る「追憶篇」がベースとなる『The Beginning』の2部作で描かれる。
今回からのキャストとして、縁を新田真剣佑、雪代巴を有村架純が演じ、縁が率いる上海マフィアの副官・呉黒星（ウーヘイシン）を音尾琢真、剣心の過去に影響を残す旧幕府直属の隠密組織・闇ノ武のリーダー・辰巳を北村一輝が演じるほか、鶴見辰吾と中原丈雄も出演する。
新公開日にあわせたポスタービジュアルは“未来はここから始まる”というコピーが。新時代のために、剣心が最後の戦い挑む『The Final』と、剣心の頬に刻まれた十字傷の謎に迫る『The Beginning』で描かれる剣心ん原点。2部作で描かれる本作の“始まり”と“未来”が表現されている。
また、新たな映像も解禁。シリーズを通して披露されているアクションシーンは健在で、敵の前で見せる壁走り、さらには「お前を止めねばならぬ」と剣心と縁の一騎打ちシーンの一部も盛り込まれている。
